About the Electron Configuration Calculator
Full and shorthand configurations for any element or ion, exceptions included.
What it is
The Electron Configuration Calculator builds an element's ground-state electron configuration using the Aufbau principle, Hund's rule, and the Pauli exclusion principle. It correctly overrides the naive filling order for well-known exceptions such as chromium and copper, and supports common ions by adding or removing electrons in the correct order.
Features
Full and shorthand notation
Standard notation plus condensed noble-gas core notation.
Ion support
Enter a charge to compute cation or anion configurations correctly.
Aufbau exceptions
Known exceptions like Cr and Cu are handled explicitly, with an explanation.
